📝 Onsite Essay (Up to 25 points possible)
Overview:

Type: Expository essay — an essay where you explain an idea or concept in a clear, logical way.

Prompt Style: Based on 8th-grade STAAR Writing prompts, such as:

“Explain how perseverance can help you achieve your goals.”

“Explain why it is important to learn from mistakes.”

“Explain how kindness can impact others.”

Scoring: Graded using the 8th-grade STAAR Writing Rubric, which measures:

Organization and Focus – clear thesis, logical flow of ideas, strong beginning and end.

Development of Ideas – thoughtful examples, explanations, and details that support your main idea.

Use of Language and Conventions – precise word choice, varied sentence structure, correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

✏️ How to Prepare:

Practice writing 1–2 page essays in about 30–45 minutes.

Use a clear structure:

Body Paragraphs: Give 2–3 reasons or examples that support your idea.

You may be asked questions about:

Times you’ve shown leadership, curiosity, or teamwork.
